About the Academy
The Seven Swords Academy is a school of Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) and Swordsmanship, located in Tacoma, Washington. We primarily study and practice Medieval Longsword and its accompanying arts of Grappling, Dagger, Spear and Polearms, though we also have Renaissance rapier, sidesword, and dussack/messer. We work through both the scholarship and practical application of historical manuals left to us by Masters of the Art from the late 14th to 16th centuries, such as Fiore dei Liberi and Filippo Vadi, the Liechtenauer Tradition (Doebringer, Ringek, and von Danzig) as well as any manual that can further our understanding of the material. Though not our primary effort, we also study Sword and Buckler, Sidesword, Sabre, Rapier, and Single-stick, and Bowie/Long knife as many of the fundamental principles apply.

Officially opened on October 1st, 2016, the Seven Swords Academy is now a martial arts Center teaching the Medieval and Renaissance arts of swordsmanship but continues its primary focus on medieval weapons combat and swordsmanship from a decidedly Martial point of view. This method is supplemented with transferring those martial skills into a safe, fun, competitive play format for a more complete and rounded approach to Martial Arts as a whole. These disciplines come with different instructors working together and cross training to provide a comprehensive system that agrees with the principles and fundamentals of movement inherent in a proper, functional martial arts with contextual application in mind.
